OUR ROOTS

WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT RESTAURANT FOUNDED BY HELEN BENTLEY.

From Humble Beginnings to Welcoming Guests from Near and Far

Stanley’s started small — just six tables and a tiny 4 by 2-meter kitchen that was more like a cupboard. Back then, it was just the three of us. Since those early days, we’ve grown dramatically, and we credit our success to taking pride in serving great food and coffee, paired with attentive, friendly service. We care about our customers — and we care just as much about our staff.

This ethos has made us increasingly popular, and people now travel from near and far — locally, nationally, and even internationally — to enjoy the warm, welcoming hospitality we’re known for.

WHO IS STANLEY?

ABOUT THE FAMILY

The restaurant’s name is a homage to “Grandpa Stanley,” the grandfather of our owner, Helen Bentley. Helen’s love of food began at home, learning the art of cooking, baking, and fine foods from her Mum, Judith, and Gran, Molly.

Helen went on to build a remarkable career as a chef, working with culinary legends such as Francis Coulson MBE and Brian Sack at the Sharrow Bay , Country House Hotel, in the Lake District. She also honed her skills at Terry Laybourne OBE’s 21 Queen Street, a restaurant renowned for holding a Michelin Star.
